Coming from a family well endowed in estrogen I think the temptation for women is more of emotional pornography in romance novels and romance films. It solidifies for women a false image of relationships that only set men to try and reach a bar of the rugged rogue or the charming companion that, to be honest, sets many men up to fail and it objectifies men as much as lewd pictures objectify women.
I’ve heard from many MARRIED MEN their frustration in trying to compete for their wife’s affection with fantasy characters. As a net result we aren’t being what God created us to be but are pandering to a novelists ideal to try and win our lady’s heart. I struggle with this with women I date. Many of them have had this emotional pornography eat away at their ability to form an authentic, lasting relationship. As a result they become more engrossed in romantic novels and films and continually ask themselves when “Mr. Right” will come along.

@jeremy: I can definitely see what you’re saying. Romance novels and “chick flicks” are a big part of what women struggle with. And starting with Disney Princess movies, we have it in our minds that some perfect man is going to find us, and as soon as we kiss him, the whole world will be right. And it continues as we grow older and watch romantic comedies and even romantic drama movies. Books too. But it’s more than that. It’s actual pornography as well. Internet and visual pornography takes that emotional scarring to a whole new level. It desensitizes us to sex and leaves us emotionally empty, which means that when it comes time for a real marriage relationship, problems arise. It’s a huge problem, and I can’t wait to see this book and what we can learn from it! I know so many women who will get so much out of it!
